Spinal Decompression

Spinal decompression is a computer-controlled, motorized, precise form of traction that a chiropractor can use to relieve sciatica and back pain. Sciatica and back pain can take over your life. Our chiropractor in Lawrenceville, at Injury 2 Health can provide spinal decompression for non-surgical, drug-free, lasting relief from these common conditions. Here are some answers to some frequently asked questions about chiropractic spinal decompression therapy.

Spinal Decompression

What is chiropractic spinal decompression?

Chiropractic spinal decompression is a computer-assisted method of safely and gently stretching the spine. Many back problems are caused by deterioration, rupture, or slippage of the discs, the protective cushions between the vertebrae of your spine. When the discs fail, the bones of your spine get out of alignment. This may place constant pressure on your sciatic nerve that causes you constant pain. Or the misalignment of the bones of the spine may interfere with normal sensation from the lower half of your body. Using spinal decompression can take the pressure off the nerves, relieve pain, and restore normal mobility.

What to Expect During Spinal Decompression

During spinal decompression, you will lie fully clothed, usually face down, on a motorized table. The lower half of the table will move slowly back and forth so your spine is alternately stretched and relaxed. The procedure relieves pressure and then creates negative pressure in the discs between the bones of your spine, so you should begin to feel pain relief even during the treatment.

You will almost certainly need more than one session of chiropractic spinal decompression. Some patients experience significant pain relief after just one or two sessions. Others find significant pain relief after more, each case varies which is why our chiropractic team creates individualized treatment plans.

The Goals of Spinal Decompression

Spinal decompression creates negative pressure inside the discs between the vertebrae of your spine. Bulging, slipped, ruptured, or herniated discs may retract, taking pressure off nerves exiting the spine. The negative pressure inside the disc helps it rehydrate as it pulls in oxygen and nutrients. Chiropractic spinal decompression may take the pressure off the facets of the joints in your spine so injured roots of nerves get a chance to heal. Our goal is to give you the treatment that will provide lasting relief from back pain and/or sciatica.
